a not so happy new financial year?
Although some may have breathed a sigh of relief as the 30th June signalled the end of the last financial year, many would have been sorely disappointed with the market performance on the 1st July indicating that the market volatility may well be set to continue.
For many of you, this means more difficult discussions as end of year reporting is completed and sent to clients. Perhaps you can find some small comfort that you made the decision to record client assets on V-Wrap, which is significantly more cost effective than many other platforms and thereby reducing the negative performance impact on your client portfolios.
This issue of the newsletter provides you with a help document and online demonstration outlining key processes that should help you complete your end of year reporting more efficiently. new! p-desktop enhancements
A new version of p-Desktop has been released overnight and includes:
- A new Balance History screen allowing you to chart value versus cost and compare this to accumulation indices
- A new ASX Upcoming Floats screen providing details of upcoming floats including the capital to be raised, issue prices, proposed offer close dates and proposed list dates
- Ability to import or export your Workspace, Watch lists and Alerts to and from local files
- Addition of market capitalisation and securities weight in the All Ordinaries to the Watch lists
For licensed equity dealers, the new version of p-Desktop also includes some enhancements to the Portfolio Planner and Portfolio Reviewer functionality including:
- Ability to save proposed transactions to local files
- Ability to include managed fund and service assets within the proposed transactions
- Upload saved equity transactions into the multi-order screen
All p-Desktop users will be given the option to download this new version of the system when they log in to p-Desktop. Each user will only have access to the functionality that is relevant for their role/user type.

how estimated income is calculated
The Estimated Income figure is based on the last 12 months of dividends/distributions that a security has paid.
For example, if you hold 1,000 BHP shares and there were two dividends paid in the last 12 months of 33 and 31 cents per share, then the estimated income is calculated as $640.
The Estimated Yield is expressed in percentage terms and is calculated by dividing Estimated Income by the market value.
You can choose to adjust the Yield Estimate by using the Yield Override functionality. This allows you to adjust the yield on a cents per unit or percentage basis for a particular security or cashbook. To access this functionality go to Maintenance, Asset Maintenance, Yield Overrides. You will then be able to enter the security code, the date at which the yield is relevant and either the cents per unit or percentage figure.
